The major march for justice launched by the leader of the main opposition party in Turkey was on its 9th day today (June 23).

Chair of CHP (Republican People’s Party), Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, started the Justice March on June 15 at Güvenpark of Ankara and vowed to end it in İstanbul’s Maltepe Prison where CHP lawmaker Enis Berberoğlu is held in detention.

Launched after the arrest and sentencing of CHP MP Berberoğlu with charges on ‘political and military espionage’ in relation to MİT trucks case, the march has received growing support from the opposition forces all across the country, as well as, from the second largest opposition in the country HDP and a number of MHP members who have been in disagreement with the chair of their former party due to his support for the ruling party AKP.

In a brief statement delivered just before the start of the march in Ankara on Thursday last week, Kılıçdaroğlu emphasized that the march was not related to any particular party but rather a ‘call for justice for everyone’.

The move of the opposition has not only been criticized by the ruling party AKP and the chair of MHP, Devlet Bahçeli, Kılıçdaroğlu has also been targetted by president Erdoğan with threatening remarks.

On its 8th day (June 22), CHP chair Kılıçdaroğlu and hundreds of participants crossed the border of Ankara and reached the province of Bolu under heavy rain.

Of the 432 kilometers long distance between Ankara and İstanbul, 132 kilometers have been completed and march is expected to last for about 28 days in total.

While Kılıçdaroğlu and people who walk with him were greeted warmly by locals in the areas that the marching group stopped, people in several cities have been organizing ‘justice duty’ meetings in downtowns to support the Justice March.
