Unemployment in Turkey reaches highest rate in 7 years

Unemployment rate in Turkey had already signaled a problem by the end of 2016. According to the latest data released by Turkish Statistical Institution, current unemployment rate has reached 12.7%, the highest level of unemployment experienced in the country within the past 7 years.

The number of unemployed people across Turkey over the age of 15 increased by 668K individuals by December 2016 and the total number of the unemployed stood at 3 million 872 thousand.

The group that got affected the most was the youth – aged between 15-24 – 24% of whom are reported as unemployed.
