13 people in custody in connection to assassination of Ambassador Karlov

In scope of investigations on assassination of Russian Ambassador to Turkey Andrei Karlov by a 22 year old Turkish riot police, 13 people, including assassinator’s mother, father, sister, two uncles, aunt-in-law, have been taken into custody.

While claims about assassinator Altıntaş being a FETÖ member quickly spread on social media almost immediately after the attack and were backed by statements of several AKP officials, many other officials in opposition warned against the claims, noting that a thorough investigation must be run before coming down to a conclusion.

Meanwhile, according to reports of Reuters, diplomatic sources in Turkey’s foreign ministry said that Turkey’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu ‘had informed both US and Russian officials that FETÖ (Fethullah Gülen Terrorist Organization) was behind the assassination of Ambassador Karlov.’
