6 human rights defenders in Turkey arrested

6 human rights defenders in Turkey who were taken into custody in Büyükada (biggest of the Princes’ Islands of İstanbul) 12 days ago have been arrested, while 4 were released.

They were asked to give their testimonies at the counter-terrorism unit and then arrested with accusations of ‘support to terror groups’.

While several human rights advocates, including the head of Amnesty International, called on the authorities in Turkey to released the activists, Turkey's President Erdoğan had claimed during a press conference held in Hamburg during the G20 Summit that the rights defenders were 'holding a meeting to plot something that would have been the continuation of July 15 coup attempt'.
