9 executives and columnists of Cumhuriyet newspaper of Turkey arrested
After having been held in custody at İstanbul’s Vatan Police Station since the operation launched by officials against Cumhuriyet newspaper on October 31st, editor in chief Murat Sabuncu; Cumhuriyet Foundation’s board members Hakan Karasinir, Bülent Utku, Güray Tekin Öz, Mustafa Kemal Güngör, and Önder Çelik; managing editor for the books section Turhan Günay; columnist Kadri Gürsel; and, cartoonist Musa Kart have been arrested.
While accounting manager Günseli Özaltay and former executive Bülent Yener was released after their questioning at the police station yesterday evening (November 4), columnists Hikmet Çetinkaya and Aydın Engin have been issued a decision for release on probation.
