A child in Turkey's İstanbul hit and killed by an armored police vehicle

In Okmeydanı district of İstanbul, an armored police vehicle hit and killed a Syrian child while he was playing on the street.

The crash happened as the officers in the vehicle were driving it in full-speed, witnesses said, adding it is ‘something quite usual for police officers to drive through the small streets’ of this neighborhood mostly dwelled by families with lower incomes.

The child was picked up by the officers in the car quickly and taken to the nearest state hospital and the mother was not informed for hours, reports said. The child lost his life at the hospital.

Members of civil society organizations have called on for a demonstration at the site of the accident, to be held in the evening of Wednesday (August 1), as children being injured or killed by armored security vehicles have also begun to be happening more frequently - especially in the southeastern provinces of the country - within the past few years.
