A speaker at a seminar in Turkey likens uncovered women to ‘peeled tomatoes’
A video recorded last year at a seminar organized by Turkey’s Akademya journal and the local municipality of İstanbul’s Üsküdar district has recently gone viral on social media, causing reaction from the public as a women speaker in the video is seen saying ‘Muslim women without a head cover are like peeled tomatoes’.
Speaking at the event called as ‘The Walking Big East’, the guest speaker Emine Merve Akyüz delivered a speech on the role of women.
“There has to be a veiling on Muslim women. Nobody would like to have a tomato with its peel opened and ripped a little. In this regard, the veiling puts the woman under a cover and protects its meaning and figure”, Akyüz observed as saying in the video.
