Aggressor in Turkey attacks woman in front of governor's office of Elazığ

An aggressor in Turkey’s Elazığ province attacked women passing by the governor’s office building in city center.

As Güzin Çamur from BirGün reported, the man who came to the site first ran around the building while screaming out things about July 15 coup attempt. Suddenly, he punched a woman on the side walk who was with her two small children of ages around 6-7 and told her to ‘cover up her head.’

As the children and the woman screamed and began crying, a witness passing by helped the woman. Meanwhile, the aggressor attacked another woman nearby. At that point, another man who saw the attacker defended the woman and attacked back on the aggressor.

The witness who called BirGün to report the incident said: “After the first woman got attacked violently, I went up to her to calm her and her children. The attacked woman was about to have a break down. And, then, the children began crying in shock. At that point, the aggressor attacked another woman. And, a man passing by intervened and attacked back. The police, who was watching the incident until that point, came to the site running and saved the attacker from the man who was defending the women. Additional security teams were called on to the site. The attacker and the woman who got attacked are now inside the governor’s office”.

Reports about violence against women – as well as, violence in general - in public places have become severely excessive in the country especially within the past few years. Government officials’ indifference to the rising problem has been criticized by both the opposition and the public.
