Aslı Erdoğan, Necmiye Alpay, and Zana Bilir Kaya visit Cumhuriyet newspaper
Second hearing of the case against Turkey’s shut down Özgür Gündem newspaper was held yesterday (January 2) in Çağlayan courthouse of İstanbul. After the hearing, recently released author Aslı Erdoğan, and linguist Necmiye Alpay, who were members of the advisory board of Özgür Günde and were held in custody for over 4 months on charges of ‘terror propaganda and membership of terrorist organization visited Cumhuriyet newspaper, whose executive members are still jailed, to give them support. Also released from jail last week, Özgür Gündem’s editor in chief Zana Bilir Kaya was also there with Erdoğan and Alpay.
Talking to Cumhuriyet’s publisher Orhan Erinç and Extending thanks to the team of Cumhuriyet newspaper for their support for journalists and team members of Özgür Gündem throughout their detention and trial, author Aslı Erdoğan said: “Now we are free. We can give solidarity support for Cumhuriyet.’ Necmiye Alpay also expressed her support for Cumhuriyet.
