Deputy chair of Turkey's CHP: 'We are marching also for the jailed HDP MPs'

Deputy chair of Turkey’s main opposition party CHP (Republican People’s Party), Erdal Aksünger, gave statements about the Justice March launched by his party’s chair Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu and said: “We have started this march by saying ‘justice for everyone.’ We are marching also for the jailed parliamentarians of HDP.”

According to reports of online news portal Gazete Duvar, Aksünger also added that ‘where this march will be finalized is uncertain.’

In reaction to the recent court decision on the arrest and imprisonment of CHP MP and journalist Enis Berberoğlu over accusaations of ‘political and military espionage’, CHP held an emergency meeting on Wednesday (June 14) and took a decision to launch a march where the chair of the party is to walk from Ankara to İstanbul to demand justice.

Lawyer's objections to the decision rejected

Berberoğlu has been tried in the case on MİT (National Intelligence Organization) trucks, along with journalists Can Dündar and Erdem Gül. His file in the case was seperated from the others and he was sentenced to 25 years in jail.

Objections by the MP's lawyer Murat Ergün to the charges have also been rejected.

HDP spokesperson's earlier comments

Earlier, spokesperson of Turkey’s HDP (Democratic People’s Party), Osman Baydemir, had also given statements about the Justice March of the main opposition party and said HDP will be in support of the march and demand release of all jailed MPs.

Baydemir said: “All jailed parliementarians need to be released. As comrades of Selahattin Demirtaş, we are not going to remain silent over the detention of those who did remain silent over detention of Demirtaş. Regardless of which political party they are from, we are going to say no when a representative gets detained.”
