Erdoğan’s comment on Moody’s: ‘Put a few pennies to their pockets and you’ll get any rank you want!’

Having met with the village headmen at the Presidential Palace today (September 29th) for the 27th Meeting, President Erdoğan gave a long speech touching on various topics, including the extension of state of emergency for 3 more months.

Additionally, when mentioning the latest reports of the credit ranking corporation Moody’s, where Turkey’s credit points have been downgraded, Erdoğan used the metaphor of ‘the boy crying the wolf’ and said: “Put a few pennies in the pocket of these people (credit ranking firms) and you’ll get any ‘note’ you want!”

Parts of the Erdoğan’s speech from today’s meeting included the following statements: “... They call a country like Turkey, which stands on its own feet, ‘static’. This time, they did not say ‘static’; instead, they just dropped its ranking. Drop it as much as you want; it is not the reality of Turkey. Turkey continues its investments and developments. You are distant from Turkey’s realities. Put a few pennies in the pocket of these people (credit ranking firms) and you’ll get any ‘note’ you want!”
