Erdoğan's self contradictory statement: 'We have never been deceived'
Speaking at 37th Meeting with Village Headmen at Presidential Palace in Ankara, Turkey’s President Erdoğan talked about a range of things, including the referendum and the failed coup attempt of last summer.
Erdoğan: ‘We have never been deceived’
Giving reference to recent statements of main opposition party CHP’s chair where he asserted the coup in Turkey was a ‘controlled coup’, Erdoğan said furiously: “Now, the person leading the main opposition party is blurring the July 15 spirit. Listen to what he (CHP chair Kılıçdaroğlu) says: ‘This is a covered coup.’ Where do you get the authority to insult our martyrs? If it is a covered coup and if you have the slightest honor, come on and reveal the files. Then, we’ll do whatever necessary. Throughout my political life, we have never been neither the deceived nor the deceiver. Don’t lie to this nation!”

Erdoğan and AKP officials claim that the failed coup attempt of July 15 was plotted by followers of Fethullah Gülen, an Islamic cleric who has been living in USA since 1999. AKP had been in close partnership with members of Gülen’s Hizmet (Service) Movement all throughout its rule. Claiming a military junta within Turkish Armed Forces organized the coup, Erdoğan had said, multiple times, ‘we have been deceived.’ He had made similar assertions even before the July 15 attempt.
