Executive member of Turkey's ÖDP taken into custody over social media posts

A member of the central executive board of Turkey’s left-wing Freedom and Solidarity Party (ÖDP) and an active member of Haziran (June) Movement, Onur Kılıç, was taken into custody on Friday (June 30) morning.

Kılıç, whose house was raided by the police in İzmir at early morning hours in scope of an operation against ‘social media posts’, is held in custody over accusations of ‘insulting the president’ and ‘terror propaganda’.

Lawyers of Kılıç stated that authorities extended his detention time to one week by giving reference to the ongoing state of emergency law in force in the country.

Kılıç will be held in custody until the next legal action is taken.

In a statement released following detention of Kılıç and 14 others, ÖDP demanded Kılıç and others to be freed.

‘It’s been understood that the prosecutors of this country are using up all of their working hours to chase after those who criticize the chair of AKP, Erdoğan. The judiciary in Turkey has been turned into a machine working just to declare all people not in support of AKP as terrorists’, the statement said.

ÖDP members also mentioned their support for the Justice March in their recent statement.
