First reactions from CHP and HDP against extension of state of emergency
As Deputy PM Numan Kurtulmuş announced the decision of the Council of Ministers to extend the state of emergency for 3 more months, first reactions came from the opposition parties CHP and HDP.

Giving statements after the convention of the Council of Ministers, which was held yesterday (October 3) under the leadership of President Erdoğan, Deputy PM and Spokesperson of the government Numan Kurtulmuş announced the decision of the Council to extend OHAL (state of emergency) for 3 more months.
Kurtulmuş also stated that ‘a parliamentary committee will be created with the participation of all four standing parties (AKP, CHP, MHP, HDP) with regards to the statutory decrees passed under OHAL’. However, CHP MP Özgür Özel gave a statement saying they have not been informed about such intention.
First reactions against the decision came from CHP parliamentary group leader Levent Gök and HDP Deputy Co-chair Meral Danış Beştaş.
While Gök said: “OHAL is being turned into an arbitrary ruling”, Beştaş stated the following: “Extension of OHAL means for unlawfulness, unconstitutional actions, torture, maltreatment, ban on media, and the one-man rule to continue.”
As AKP officials and the President had already given signals about this extension last week, CHP and HDP leaders and members had also expressed their concerns, while MHP announced its full support for it.
