First statement from Turkey on Qatar crisis: 'It is saddening'

Turkey’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, gave a statement on Monday (June 5) about the decision of 6 Arab countries – Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Bahrain, UAE, Yemen, Libya – to cut ties with Qatar.

Accusing Doha with being in support of ISIL and Al-Qaeda, the countries took the decision with the initiative of Saudi Arabia, which also accused Qatar with being in collaboration with ‘Iranian-backed terrorist groups’.

Turkey’s Minister Çavuşoğlu said they found it as a ‘saddening step’ and asserted that ‘dialogues should continue.’
Jordan, Oman, and Kuwait stated their intention to continue relations with Qatar.
