Giant banner at Taksim Square: ‘Dog of the devil FETO! We will execute you!’
Following the coup attempt, President Erdoğan had called on people to gather at city squares ‘for duty’. On the 4th day of the demonstrations, a giant banner has been hung over Atatürk Cultural Center at Taksim Square in İstanbul.

According to the reports of Cumhuriyet newspaper, it was written on the banner: ‘Dog of the devil FETO; we will execute you and your dogs with your own leashes!’

Taksim Square is one of the most significant spots in İstanbul in terms of commercial and touristic aspects. It’s also the very square which has been a subject of numerous incidents related to mass demonstrations. Though it had been closed by the government itself for any big assembling, masses have been crowding there since the call of Erdoğan to people to come out to streets in defense of democracy. And, the giant banner that has been put on display at this square is rather disturbing because it urges for death penalty, which has been banned in Turkey de facto since 1984 and legally since 2004.
