'Having a permanent address' gets the son-in-law of Turkey's former deputy PM released

After being kept in detention for four days over alleged membership in ‘FETÖ’, son-in-law of Turkey’s former deputy PM, Ekrem Yeter, was released earlier on Friday (June 9) in response to an objection filed with the 2nd peace court of Ankara.

As the reason for his release was stated as ‘having a permanent address of residency’, main opposition party CHP’s İstanbul MP Barış Yarkadaş reacted to the decision by saying, ‘So, son-in-law of Bülent Arınç, Ekrem Yeter, is released because he has ‘a permanent address of residency.’ Were Kadri Gürsel, Murat Sabuncu, and others living in a trailer!?’

There are currently tens of thousands of people kept in detention or arrested in scope of investigations into the failed coup attempt of last July, which is alleged to have been perpetrated by the followers of Islamic cleric Fethullah Gülen.

The purge of the government and the legal procedures surrounding it have been repeatedly criticized both in the country and internationally due to unlawful practices and great number of detentions and dismissals enforced without due process and/or evidence-based punishment.
