HDP and CHP MPs intend to protest Erdoğan at the Parliament

As the preparations are currently taking place for the opening of the 26th session of the Parliament today (October 1), signs of dissent among CHP members with regards to ‘paying due respect to the President’ during the opening session have been observed. Meanwhile, reports also signal that HDP MPs decided to protest Erdoğan either by not attending to the session or remaining seated during the entrance of the President.

Dissent among CHP members

While CHP MP Levent Gök said: “We are going to greet the President with all due respect”, also MP Muharrem İnce shared his views from his personal twitter account and stated: “Regardless of their position, whoever does not show respect to Atatürk, to the Republic, and to the Treaty of Lausanne, which is the title of the Republic, I will not show any respect to those, either!”

Reports about some of the CHP MPs not intending to attend the opening of the Parliament today have also been shared recently.

HDP MPs are determined

HDP Mardin MP Mithat Sancar gave statements about their decision and said: “A special demonstration of respect should not be expected from us neither when Erdoğan enters nor when he leaves the room!”

The overall attitude of the MPs of the opposition parties CHP and HDP will be observed more clearly during the session today.
