Speaking at his party’s Consultation and Evaluation Meeting in Afyon province yesterday (October 23), Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu gave information with regards to AKP’s plans to arm its provincial heads in regions where trustees have been appointed.
Soylu said: “We are going to give a gun license to each of our party members. We are also going to provide them with a security guard. Indeed, we can have rangers to be their guards. And, we are going to enable them to protect themselves with long-range weapons.”
The minister’s statements have come about a week after the killing of a trustee that had been appointed by AKP to Van’s Erciş Municipality. Trustee at Erciş and AKP member Mehmet Şerif Doğu was targetted in an armed attack and lost his life as a result, earlier in October. Investigations and operations for catching the perpetrator still continue.
