Iran's Chief of Staff arrives in Turkey for a three-day long visit

Iran’s Chief of Staff Mohammad Baqeri has arrived in Turkey’s capital Ankara today (August 15) to start his three-day long visit in the country.

Baqeri’s visit comes after an official invitation from his counterpart Hulusi Akar, the Chief of Staff of Turkey’s armed forces.

In addition to his talks with Akar, Baqeri will also be meeting with other high rank army officials, as well as, government officials, including Defense Minister Nurettin Canikli and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Counter terrorism efforts; regional issues; border security; and, cooperation between the two countries in defense fields are among the top topics to be discussed during the visit.

The decision of the Kurdistan Regional Government in Iraq to hold a referendum on independence is among the other significant issues to be brought up during the talks.
