İstanbul police launch a major surveillance operation

Police in Turkey has launched a second major operation in İstanbul and closed down entrance and exit ways from land, air, and sea.

A week earlier, on March 15th, the operation named as Kurtkapanı 1 was held at the Asian side of the city and 14 points of crossing had been blocked in districts of Şile, Pendik, Kartal, and Tuzla, as well as, Sabiha Gökçen Airport area.

Today’s operation, named as Kurtkapanı 2, started at noon as around 2000 police officers took on duty at the European side of İstanbul. Helicopters are again providing surveillance support from air. All land and sea routes to the European side will be shut between 12:00 and 15:00 and all vehicles will be searched again, according to reports.

As a result of the first operation last week, 2 Pakistani men had been taken into custody as they were carrying on them fake ID cards; and, a number of unregistered arms were seized by police in vehicles stopped and searched on highways.
