Journalist Zehra Doğan from Turkey's shut-down JINHA arrested

Editor of Turkey’s shut-down JINHA (Jin News Agency) Zehra Doğan was arrested today (June 12) on the highway between southeastern provinces of Diyarbakır and Mardin while she was travelling to Mardin from Diyarbakır to see her family.

Doğan was previously arrested back in 23rd of July last year in reference to state of emergency laws passed after the failed coup attempt of July 15th. Having been accused – based on testimonies of ‘anonymous witnesses’ – of ‘membership to terrorist group’ and ‘terror propaganda’, Doğan was held in detention until 9 December 2016, when the court then decided to release her on conditions of trial without arrest.

On March 2nd, court sentenced her to 2 years and 9 months jail time because of sharing her drawings from Mardin’s Nusaybin district over the social media and for reporting on the 10 year old Elif Akboğa’s notes.
