Man who attacked Atatürk's statue in Turkey claims he was told to do so 'in his dream'

A man who tried to damage a statue of Atatürk in Turkey’s southeastern province of Urfa was taken into custody immediately on the site.

While the governor’s office of Urfa released a statement suggesting the man had ‘mental disabilities’, the aggressor who claimed his name to be Mehmet Malbora said in his testimony to the prosecutor that ‘he was not regretful of his act as it had been revealed

to him in a dream that he was supposed to damage the figure of Atatürk’.

As police arrested him and searched his house, his relatives claimed he was a drug abuser. The man had yelled out ‘there is no idolatry in Islam’ while trying to hammer the figure.
