Message of solidarity from IndustriALL to Turkey's metalworkers

Representing 50 million workers in mining, energy, and manufacturing sectors from 140 countries and 600 unions, IndustriALL Global Union released a statement condemning the emergency decree passed in Turkey last week banning the strike of 2200 steel workers for the next 60 days declaring the workers’ strike as ‘detrimental to national security.’

IndustriALL’s assistant general secretary Kemal Özkan said: "Again, we strongly condemn this blatant violation of the fundamental right of workers to strike, guaranteed by Turkey’s constitution," says IndustriALL assistant general secretary Kemal Özkan… This shows the government favoring business interests rather than protecting the rights of the workers…IndustriALL will continue to support our Turkish affiliate Birleşik Metal-İş, and urge the Turkish government to withdraw the decree and instead create a proper environment where free collective bargaining negotiations can take place.”

In a letter signed by IndustriALL’s executives Valter Sanches and Luc Triangle, a message of solidarity was extended to Birleşik Metal-İş (United Metalworkers’ Union of Turkey) members whose rights have been violated and government was criticized and condemned.
