Minister in Turkey says government doesn't have information on detained activists

Minister on EU Relations of Turkey, Ömer Çelik gave statements on Thursday (July 6).

Çelik criticized the European Parliament’s approval of a resolution asking for Turkey’s EU accession talks to be suspended and said it is a move ‘without any bindingness.’

“We call on the European Parliament to respect the referendum results”, said Çelik in response to European representatives’ reference to the controversy over the constitutional amendments approved on April 16.

When asked about the recent deteniton a group of human rights activists, including executives of Amnesty International’s Turkey branch, in İstanbul’s Büyükada (biggest of the Princes’ Islands), Minister Çelik said: “We have not got much information yet”.
