New York Times correspodent denied entry to Turkey

One of the most prominant newspapers of USA, the New York Times, reported yesterday (January 17) that Rod Nordland, one of its long time correspondants, was ‘briefly detained’ as he landed at the Atatürk Airport of İstanbul and forced to fly back to London.

Not being given any information or explanation about why he was not allowed entry to the country, Nordland said in an e-mail that he was stopped by the border police at the airport, Times reported.

It’s stated that this is the first time a New York Times correspondant is denied entry to Turkey.
Executive editor of the Times Dean Baquet said: “The Turkish government’s action is an affront to freedom of the press and an effort to keep the world from having access to independent reporting from Turkey.”
