Over 200K child marriages reported in Turkey within past 5 years
CHP parliamentary member and lawyer Sera Kadıgil was the guest expert at the TV programme of Şirin Payzın on CNN Türk yesterday (November 18).
Sharing the reported data on ‘wedded children’ and filed cases of ‘child abuse’ in Turkey, Kadıgil said while number of cases on child abuse was 2400 in 2006, this number reached 16900 as of 2016. Underlining that such cases have increased by 700% within 10 years, Kadıgil also added that the official number of ‘wedded children’ – as reported by the Family and Social Policies Ministry of Turkey – is 232,313.
