Police intervenes in press briefing at Parliament about Speaker’s Che remarks

Earlier this week, police intervened in the press briefing of CHP Ankara MP and member of the executive board of the Parliament Ali Haydar Hakverdi at the Parliament building.

Following the Speaker of the Parliament İsmail Kahraman’s scolding statements about Ernesto Che Guevara, Hakverdi had met with a group of high school students who are members of the Dev-Lis (Revolutionary High School Students) at the Parliament in order to have a brief press meeting.

According to the reports of Hülya Karabağlı from Duvar, a verbal argument took place between the police officers who wanted to block the meeting and CHP MP Hakverdi as police did not want to allow Hakverdi to hold the meeting.

Though Hakverdi convinced the officers after minutes of talking, police intervened again as the high school students intended to take out from their bags t-shirts with Che pictures on them as part of the message of the meeting.

As also caught on video, police attacked promptly and harshly, in order to keep them from continuing the meeting and holding out Che t-shirts.
