Rainbow colors on Turkey's Bosphorus Bridge upsets pro-AKP journalists

Turkey’s pro-AKP columnist Fatih Tezcan shared a message from his personal Twitter account criticizing the colors of the rainbow displayed on the Bosphorus Bridge of İstanbul, which now has an official name of July 15 Martyrs Bridge.

In his message, Tezcan wrote: ‘Whoever gave permission, in the month of Ramadan, to this Perversion Propaganda on the July 15 Martyrs Bridge in the name of ‘LGBT’, may God damn them!’

Mentioning in another Tweet that he received a phone call from the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, Tezcan stated that the Ministry said it had nothing to do with them. Saying it might have been done by İstanbul’s cosmopolitan municipality or highway administration, Tezcan added: ‘I am disgusted by it.’

Tezcan also slammed at social media users who expressed satisfaction over the new colors of the bridge lights and said: ‘Some say that it looks ‘nice.’ Let them watch it in joy. We have concerns such as raising children in a clean generation and thinking about 15 July martyrs. God is seeing us!’

Another pro-government journalist, Ömer Turan, also shared similar comments.

Hate speech in Turkey has become a severe problem especially within the past few years.

LGBT Pride Week activities have been banned in the country since 2016 due to ‘security concerns.’
