Reports on the 42 journalists to be arrested in connection to July 15 coup attempt

As part of the investigations launched in the aftermath of the July 15 coup attempt, İstanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office has issued a warrant for the detention of 42 journalists in the country, including Nazlı Ilıcak, the widely known writer, commentator and former MP from 1990’s. The warrant has been approved by İstanbul Criminal Courts of Peace.

5 journalists have already been arrested

Among the 42 journalists whose names are listed in the warrant of arrest, five of them are now taken into custody. They are: Yakup Sağlam, İbrahim Balta, Seyit Kılıç, Bayram Kaya and CihanAcar.

The interrogations are being carried out by İstanbul Public Security Branch, and, operations for arresting others are ongoing.

11 of them are reported to have fled the country

According to the news of DHA (Doğan News Agency), 11 of those listed to be arrested have already fled the country. It has been reported that 8 of them have left the country in the aftermath of the July 15 coup attempt, while 3 had already gone abroad prior to that date.

Those who have fled Turkey after the attempt are: Abdullah Abdülkadir; Bilal Şahin; BülentCeyhan; Fatih Akalan; Fatih Yağmur; Kamil Maman; Mahmut Hazar; and Selahattin Selvi.

Those who are reported to have already left before the attempt are: Ahmet Dönmez; TuranGörüryılmaz; and Ufuk Emin Köroğlu.

Nazlı Ilıcak is searched for in Bodrum district of Muğla

Security forces have started searching for Nazlı Ilıcak in Bodrum, where she is reported to have been seen on security cameras. Her summer-house and the house of her relative have been searched; however, she was not in either of them. As reported, her gardener told the security officials that she had not come to the house. The search continues across the district.
