Spokesperson of Turkey's HDP calls on interior minister to resign

Speaking at his party’s parliamentary group meeting today (January 3), HDP Spokesperson Ayhan Bilgen called on Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu to resign in the face of ‘weaknesses of his ministry’.

Bilgen said: “Over 100 people lost their lives just in the past 2 months. What kind of a failing has to take place in order for an interior minister of a country to resign from post?”

As detention of HDP (People’s Democratic Party) co-chairs Selahattin Demirtaş and Figen Yüksekdağ continue, Spokesperson Bilgen has led the party’s first parliamentary group meeting of 2017.

Parts of the speech of Bilgen follow as: “If there is currently a risk for Turkey internally, then, a self-criticism must be made in regards to Syria policy… Just as July 15 has taken place as the result of a dirty partnership (between AKP and Fethullah Gülen movement), these recent attacks are the result of the filthy alliances in Syria… A state that does not even know where its own soldiers are keeps giving numbers of ISIL members killed and wounded… Where do you get the number of the wounded ISIL members? Do you know of this because you treat them in your hospitals? Which source are you trying to dry off and where? In Al-Bab? What about those who joined Al-Nusra, going there from Turkey’s Konya and Adıyaman? If Turkey had been able to feel the pain of Suruç and Ankara massacres and if our warnings had been taken into account, Turkey would not have been going through this pain now.
