Studios of Hayatın Sesi TV, İMC TV, and Özgür Radio raided by police
Among the several TVs and radios that have been banned and blocked under statutory decree 668, studios of Hayatın Sesi TV (Voice of Life TV), İMC TV, and Özgür Radio – all in İstanbul - were raided by the police and officials from the treasury earlier today. Office doors of the stage management have also been sealed off.
It has also been reported that police entered the studio of Özgür Radio forcefully and many people were taken into custody. Executives of other major media sources in opposition (Önder Öner from ETHA; Deniz Bakır from Atılım Publishing; Öykü Dilara Keskin from JINHA), who were also present at the studio in support of Özgür Radio, are among those taken to the police station in custody.
Meanwhile, as police had blocked the street where the studio of Özgür Radio is located, journalists and people gathered near the studio to protest the raiding. Police also attacked the demonstrators on the street.
A message shared from the official twitter account of Özgür Radio read: “All of our colleagues working at our radio have been taken into custody through battering. Our News Room member Ali Sönmez Kayar is having a head trauma!”
Further annoucements and releases will be shared by Özgür Radio officials at 18:30 this evening; while İMC officials and supporters will meet at Galatasaray Square in Taksim at 19:00.
