Supreme Board of Elections of Turkey rejects CHP’s request for annulment of referendum

Turkey’s Supreme Board of Elections held a meeting in the afternoon hours on Wednesday (April 19) to discuss the objections against its decision to count valid the ballots that were not stamped with the official stamp of YSK.

Official request of Turkey’s main opposition party CHP submitted to YSK for annulment of the referendum following the unlawful practice and other irregularities was rejected by YSK today (April 19).

While 10 members of the Board were in favor of rejecting the request, only 1 member stood against it, according to reports.

Giving a statement about YSK’s rejection to annul the dubious referendum results, CHP’s Deputy Chair Bülent Tezcan said: “We are going to meet with our legal experts and plan with them the whole process ahead. And, we are going to take a political decision in this regard.”

CHP’s chair Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu had stated previously that in case YSK rejects the request for annulment of the results, CHP would take the issue to European Court of Human Rights.
