Turkey approves bill on 'security cooperation' with Qatar

At the general assembly of Turkey’s parliament today (June 7), a bill proposed for acceptance of a treaty signed between Turkey and Qatar back in 2 December 2015 was passed.

According to the treaty signed in Doha in 2015, the two countries agreed to cooperate in training of gendarme units in their countries, as it had been vowed in an earlier bilateral treaty on ‘security cooperation’ signed on 25 December 2001.

With the ratification of the treaty today, Turkey has taken a step to launch planning process for the coordination between the two countries in training of their security forces.

Turkey will now be able to deploy troops to Qatar.

While Turkey's president Erdoğan has vowed to provide help to Qatar amid the ongoing crisis, main opposition leader Kılıçdaroğlu warned the ruling party AKP to stay away from taking sides in this current conflict.
