Head of Turkey’s ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) and the president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan gave threatening remarks in response to the opposition’s Justice March. As Erdoğan said the leader of the main opposition CHP (Republican People’s Party) ‘may not even be able to go out to the streets’, CHP members reacted to it firmly.
Speaking on behalf of his party, deputy parliamentary group leader of CHP, Levent Gök, stated that Erdoğan has been ‘yearning to dictate’ and added: “CHP will never accept or surrender to any guardianship or threats”.
At a press meeting at the Parliament, MP Gök said the big rally held in İstanbul’s Maltepe at the end of the Justice March has caused AKP to lose composure. “They (AKP members) cannot bear this fact”, Gök said.
Gök also mentioned the upcoming July 15 commemoration ceremonies scheduled to be held at the Parliament and criticized the Speaker of the Parliament for failing to invite his party. “They use the money that is collected from all of as taxes in so-called ceremonies to be held at the Parliament’s yard. But CHP is not in! Because, CHP was good for them at that time (during the coup attempt) but then they said ‘let’s get CHP out of the picture’. Is that so? Is it that cheap Mr. Speaker? You’re going to have to be held accountable for this”, Gök said.
Also commenting on PM Yıldırım’s claims that AKP members did not receive any special invitaiton, either, CHP MP Gök said the AKP leaders are ‘trying to play with people’s minds’ and added: “We do not remember of any time period when the state had been this stinky, rotten, and bankrupt!”
Meanwhile, the PR department of the Grand National Assembly released a statement claiming invitations for the ceremonies had been sent to all political leaders and MPs.
Both CHP and HDP members, however, stated that they have not received any invitation or note.
