Turkey’s main opposition leader explains reasons for suspecting the coup was ‘controlled’

In his statement given on Monday (April 3), Turkey’s main opposition party CHP’s chair Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu had said the coup in Turkey was a ‘controlled coup.’ Having received firm reactions from both President Erdoğan and Prime Minister Yıldırm, Kılıçdaroğlu repeated his assertions in his interview with Abdülkadir Selvi from Hürriyet newspaper.

As Selvi reported today (April 5), Kılıçdaroğlu listed the reasons for the opposition’s suspicion as the following:

“1) The government prevented the parliamentary committee from revealing the main framework of the coup. Key bureaucrats did not come to the parliament. This caused us to be suspicious.

2) The prosecutor who was handling the main indictment on FETÖ investigation was dismissed from post.

3) There are significant suspicions regarding the main indictment. There are gaps between certain parts of the indictment. It starts out with point by point explanations but then a section with the title of mastermind comes next. This led to speculations about intentions to cover up the coup attempt.

4) There is an indictment about FETÖ (Fethullah Gülen terrorist organization) dated as June 6. In that indictment, it is stated that FETÖ would organize a coup and it is noted that it (FETÖ) reached the capacity to do that. So, why wasn’t it prevented?”
