VIDEO: Aggressors target 'no' campaigners in İstanbul

While the proponents of AKP’s suggested new constitution have been using public resources to run their referendum campaign in various cities across the country, the ‘no’ voters have not been only banned also targeted and attacked in several ways.

In İstanbul’s Bayrampaşa district, a group of people who were doing propaganda against the new constitution was harassed and insulted by an aggressive group.

In the video recorded by a person inside the vehicle of the ‘no’ campaigners, some of the aggressors are seen arguing with the campaigners while also trying to forcefully walk up to them in an attempt to start a physical fight.

As one man sees the woman in the car recording the incident, he says: “What? Are you recording it on camera? What are you doing?” The woman answers: “What are we doing? We are saying ‘no’ and we are trying to hold a referendum campaign.”

When the ‘no’ voter in the passenger seat of the car tries to push away the aggressor and says “Go away! You, trouble-maker”, the aggressor replies furiously: “Yes, I am a trouble-maker. So, what?”

Since the early days of the referendum campaigns, there have been numerous reports coming from various parts of Turkey about physical and verbal attacks against the opponents of the new constitution.

Citizens of Turkey will be casting their votes on a controversial constitutional amendments package, which is deemed to expand president Erdoğan's power.
