Trustee appointed in place of detained co-mayors of Diyarbakır
Former district head for Ankara’s Etimesgut district Cumali Atilla has been appointed as the trustee in place of detained co-mayors of Diyarbakır, Gültan Kışanak and Fırat Anlı.
As recently announced by Diyarbakır Chief Prosecutor’s office, Kışanak and Anlı are being charged with ‘being a member of an armed terrorist group.’
Governor of Diyarbakır Hüseyin Aksoy had recently held a press conference, with the attendance of several local media members, where he had indicated ‘a trustee was to be appointed to the post of the mayor in Diyarbakır at the shortest time.’
While reminding that those dismissed from their positions on ‘accusations of connection to terror’ could be replaced by a decision of the Interior Ministry, Aksoy had expressed during the press conference that ‘necessary contacts had been made and the last word was to come from the Interior Minister.’
