AKP municipality launches a probe against staff who did not attend an iftar dinner

District municipality of Gevaş in Turkey’s Van launched an investigation into staff members who did not attend an iftar dinner organized jointly with the cosmopolitan municipality of the city.

According to the report of Vecdi Erbay from online news portal Gazete Duvar, a staff member who received an official note about his absence at the dinner reacted to the probe by saying ‘it is our right to have the iftar dinner at home with our families.’

Run by AKP members, the Gevaş district office and the cosmopolitan municipality of Van – to which a trustee was appointed, last year – had organized the dinner earlier last week. Signed by the deputy head of the Gevaş municipality, Behçet Altındaş, the letter emphasized that the announcement of the iftar dinner had included a statement ‘calling on the staff to attend’. The staff member receiving the letter was also asked to ‘write and submit a letter of defense within the next 7 days.’
