Elections in Turkey to take place in 2019 as planned, says PM Yıldırım

Turkey’s Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım talked to journalists this morning (January 17) before attending his party’s (AKP) executive board meeting at party HQs.

Yıldırım talked about the operation on attacker of nightclub attack in İstanbul and said ‘there are a lot of details which would be shared with public once the interrogation of the recently caught attacker and other suspects is finalized.’

Also giving statements about debates on constitutional amendments in Turkey and assertion about possibility of early elections, Yıldırım said: “There are no surprises. AKP group is solid like a rock. And, we are going to vote during the second round, as well, and we are going to take the new constitution to a referendum... Once the process is completed in the parliament, we have no hesitation on the date of the referendum... And, elections will take place in 2019 as planned. There is no need to create uncertainty by bringing up the possibility of early elections...”
