HDP: ‘Neither Kurds nor Turkey’s democracy and peace forces will submit to oppression’

HDP released a statement about detention of Diyarbakır co-mayors Gültan Kışanak and Fırat Anlı and KJA term spokesperson Ayla Akat Ata. Press release of HDP Central Executive Board is as follows: “Following an arbitrary and unlawful arrest, a political and unlawful detention has been put in force. Political will of the people of Diyarbakır has been ignored. Having been elected with the votes of hundreds of people, co-mayors Gültan Kışanak and Fırat Anlı and KJA term spokesperson Ayla Akat Ata have been arrested based on unwarranted and fabricated claims…

The government of Erdoğan-AKP is aiming to dismiss democratic politics and democratic opposition with its hostile approach… The government has signaled that it would not hesitate to step over the elected rulers of a city that has a symbolic and historical value and meaning for the Kurdish people. This is a historical mistake. And, the sin of this mistake is upon the government of Erdoğan-AKP… Neither Kurdish people and their political movement nor the democracy and peace forces of Turkey will submit to oppression and cruelty.”
