Islamic sermon from Turkey's religion affairs office: 'Do not celebrate new year's eve'

Turkey’s Religion Affairs Presidency prepared a khutbah (Islamic sermon) and made it read out during the Friday prayers at mosques today (December 30) deeming the activities for celebrating new year’s eve as ‘illegitimate’.

In the message of the Religion Affairs, there was also a warning against ‘forgetting one’s own essence and existence and holding acts that are not suiting one’s own culture and values’, referring to Islamic values.

For the past few weeks, Turkey has experienced a striking and interesting emergence of public messages sent out by some officials, including the district heads of the education ministry, as well as, some civilian groups, with regards to ‘new year’s celebrations being improper and harmful’ for the people of Turkey.
