Minimum wage in Turkey leaves families below ‘hunger threshold’

Results of a recent research conducted by Turkey’s Türk-İş union revealed that a family of four in Turkey needs 1508 TL to stay above the hunger threshold. Minimum wage in the country, however, is currently 1404 TL.

The monthly research conducted by the Union also revealed that poverty threshold for a 4-member family – which is calculated through inclusion of expenses on rudimentary needs such as food, house, transportation, education - stands at 4913 TL.
A single person’s minimum financial needs was determined to be 1899 TL per month, as of June 2017.
