One out of every six employers in Turkey ran their business illegally in 2016

Turkish Statistical Institution has released the latest data on employment in Turkey. According to its findings, 1 out of every 6 employers in Turkey operated its business illegally last year.

While the number of unregistered employers was estimated to be over 150 thousand in 2015, this number increased to nearly 200 thousand last year.

Unregistered employers in the agriculture sector increased by 11%, while increase in all other sectors was marked as 15%, according to the data.

In 2015, total number of those employed illegally was recorded as over 8 million. Last year, this number reached over 9 million.
