Owner of NYC's Champion Pizza taken into custody in his hometown in Turkey

World’s champion of pizza making Hakkı Akdeniz has been taken into custody in his hometown of Silvan in southeastern province of Diyarbakır in Turkey.

Akdeniz was taken into custody as he had come from USA to Silvan to visit his homeland. Pushing Akdeniz on the ground in the street in front of his child, the police also took into custody his wife.

The child of the couple had to wait with a shop owner nearby until the brother of Akdeniz came to pick the child up.

Known for his chain pizza stores, Champion Pizza, in New York City, Hakkı Akdeniz earned, 3 times, the title of ‘world champion’ in acrobatics in pizza making.

The reason for the couple’s detention has not been disclosed yet, according to latest reports of DİHA.
