Statement of Turkey on torture claims: ‘We have a ‘zero tolerance policy’ on torture’

Turkey’s Ministries of Justice and Interior have released a joint statement in response to claims on torture.

Asserting that Turkey acts in line with its policy of ‘zero tolerance for torture’, the Ministry of Justice and Ministry of Interior shared the following joint statement: “In 2013, statues of limitations got lifted for all crimes of torture and maltreatment, preventing people who are claimed to have committed such crimes to be go unpunished. Therefore, our government, which has implemented the ‘zero tolerance’ police has no longer a topic in its agenda with regards to ‘torture’.”
