Turkey’s main opposition CHP to take rigged referendum results to ECHR

Before starting off the 20th day of the Justice March in Turkey, chair of main opposition CHP (Republican People’s Party), Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, gave a statement in İzmit province.

Holding a press briefing, Kılıçdaroğlu announced that CHP will be taking the rigged referendum results of April 16th to the European Court of Human Rights.

On April 16th, a referendum on controversial constitutional amendements – including a major shift in the country’s governance system – was held. With a last minute decision on the day of the polling towards the evening hours, the Supreme Board of

Elections announced its decision to render unstamped ballot papers and envelopes as valid although it was a decision clearly in violation of the relevant laws.

CHP had earlier called on the Supreme Board of Elections for the referendum to be cancelled due to rigged results but its request was rejected by the Board.
