Citizens’ letter to the President and politicians about alienation of HDP
A group of citizens consisting of journalists, politicians, and intellectuals have released a statement referred to the President and politicians and pointed out that despite the ‘unity and solidarity’ messages embraced and sent out after July 15, with its 6 million constituents, HDP has persistently been discriminated against through isolation and targeting.
The statement, which is titled as ‘Coups divide; democracy unite’ (Darbe ayrıştırır; demokrasi barıştırır) includes the following remarks:
Honorable President, honorable Prime Minister, honorable Speaker of the Parliament, honorable chairs of the opposition parties:
All four parties of the Parliament, which has been bombed, have adopted a clear stand against the coup attempt.
The third major party of the Parliament, HDP, is being alienated by the President’s office at Grand National Assembly and at city squares.
In a time when we need unity the most for democracy, isn’t this current approach obviously discrimination?
This discriminatory attitude of political leaders is also causing the mass media to broadcast with the same discriminatory approach and it is serving for the polarization within the society.
During this critical phase, where parliamentarian democracy and the authority of the people must be protected, we are calling on you to act responsibly by abandoning this discriminatory approach and to embrace the country with all of its colors, in a pluralistic approach.
