Hospitality sector in Turkey reacts against ban on Booking.com

Hotel Association of Turkey (TÜROB) has filed a lawsuit requesting the lifting of the decision for Booking.com to be banned in Turkey while a case against it is pending.

In its statement, the Association said the decision has had a severe impact on the already troubled hospitality sector and underlined that while the association respects supremecy of law, interests of all shareholders of the sector should be taken into consideration and protected when a decision is made.

The ban on the website, which had around 13,000 hotels in Turkey as its members, came after Association of Turkish Travel Agencies (TÜRSAB) filed a case against Booking.com with concerns over ‘unfair competition.’
While the website can still be accessed and used from foreign countries to make reservations in hotels in Turkey, it is now blocked to users from Turkey.

The ban received reaction from various firms and groups within the hospitality sector.
