İstanbul’s Metropolitan Municipality withdraws its invitation to Wikipedia’s Wales

İstanbul’s Metropolitan Municipality has announced that it has withdrawn its invitation to Wikipedia’s founder Jimmy Wales.

Prior to the recent ban of the country’s government on world’s most widely used free online encyclopedia Wikipedia, the Municipality had invited Wales to Word Cities Expo event in that is scheduled to take place in İstanbul this month.

The Municipality announced its decision today and stated that ‘Wales has been taken off from the list of the invitees and he has been informed about it.’
